Enroling in Prep

Prep is now a compulsory year of schooling for children. For a child to be eligible they must turn five by 30 June of the year they commence Prep. Parents know their children and their readiness for Prep better than anyone. If there is any doubt about a child's readiness for Prep, parents are urged to speak to their child's pre-prep teacher/s and with each other to make a considered decision about enrolment.

Age Eligibility for Preparatory Year

  • Child Born 1 July 2022 - 30 June 2023 - eligible for Prep 2028

At St Matthew’s School we see Prep as an integral part of our total school life. The Prep classroom offers an atmosphere of positive acceptance in which each child is valued as an individual with a unique way of learning and interacting. Catholic Christian values are fostered and influence all interactions. Prep students engage with the mandated ACARA Curriculum through developmentally appropriate activities and investigations.

As a Catholic school, we use the Brisbane Catholic Education Religion Curriculum P - 12 to guide opportunities for learning for Prep students in Religious Education.

The Prep classes are actively involved in all areas of school life. Our Prep area has been designed to ensure children can play, learn and grow in safety and with guidance.
