Ash Wednesday is the first day of the liturgical season of Lent. During Lent, the colours in our Church and on our prayer tables change to purple. Lent is a time of waiting and preparation. A time of saying sorry and changing our hearts. A time of turning our hearts and minds to God's ways of love and goodness.
During Lent we don't use the Alleluia (Alleluia is an Easter or Resurrection word which means 'Praise the Lord'.)
Your child would have participated in either Mass or a Liturgy. During this celebration, we like many, many Christians received a cross of ashes on our foreheads. This tells our friends and family that we are not perfect, but we know that, and that with God's help we will try to reach out with more love and kindness.
